Terms of Service

Updated October 5, 2026. Template for review by counsel before launch. Not legal advice.

Who We Are

Footing is provided by [Company legal name], [address] ("we"). These terms are an agreement between you and us. By creating an account you agree to them.

What Footing Does

Footing keeps a household's financial records: transactions, budgets, investments, a long-range plan, and reports. It reads account data you connect through providers such as Plaid; it never moves money.

Footing is not a bank, broker, investment adviser, tax preparer or law firm. Projections, tax estimates, rebalancing and harvest suggestions are estimates from the numbers you give it and the assumptions shown. They are not advice. Talk to a qualified professional before acting on them.

Your Account

Keep your password and two-factor device safe; you are responsible for activity under your account. Household owners decide who joins a household and with what role.

You must be 18 or older and able to make this agreement.

Your Data

You own your data. We use it only to run Footing for you, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can download everything at any time (Settings, Household, Your Data) and delete your account, which deletes the household's data when you are its last member.

Bank connections are read-only. You can disconnect them at any time; we then remove the connection at the provider.

Plans and Billing

Some features need a paid plan. Prices, the trial length and what each plan includes are shown before you subscribe. Subscriptions renew until cancelled; cancel at any time in Settings, Billing, effective at the end of the paid period. Payments are processed by Stripe.

[Refund policy to be set.]

Acceptable Use

Do not use Footing to break the law, to access data that is not yours, to probe or overload the service, or to resell it without our permission.

Third-Party Services

Connections to banks, payroll, email, QuickBooks and others are provided by those services under their own terms. We are not responsible for their availability or accuracy; Footing shows what they send.

Warranty and Liability

Footing is provided as is. We work to keep it accurate and available but do not promise it will be error-free or uninterrupted. Check important numbers against your statements.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. [Counsel to confirm limits and exclusions, including for California consumers.]

Changes and Ending

We may update these terms; we will tell you by email at least 30 days before a material change takes effect. You may stop using Footing and delete your account at any time. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of [State]. [Dispute resolution terms to be set by counsel.]
